The 2010 Earthquake of Baja, Mexico
视频时间:
内容介绍:
A magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred in Baja, Mexico, on May 28, 2009. The epicenter of the earthquake was located some 40 kilometers (25 mi) from the US-Mexico border and the city of Mexicali. The earthquake left thousands of people homeless and caused a significant amount of liquefaction.  Many of the damaged homes were built from adobe, a material which is well know to be highly vulnerable to strong ground shaking caused by an earthquake.  In contrast, well designed, reinforced concrete buildings suffered very little damage.  The damage effects of this earthquake illustrate the importance of adequate building codes in earthquake prone regions. -----Prof. Dr. Walter Mooney
